Group 1 Verbs (Godan)
These make up the majority of Japanese verbs. They are characterized by ending in the "u" sound. When conjugated, the final syllable shifts through the five vowels (a-i-u-e-o).
They end in: 〜う, 〜つ, 〜る, 〜む, 〜ぬ, 〜ぶ, 〜く, 〜ぐ, 〜す.
The stem shifts depending on the ending (e.g., 書く → 書かない, 書きます).
Examples: 行く (To go), 飲む (To drink), 話す (To speak).
